The history of

The North Shore News Group

Meet David Ambro and Jennifer Paley-Ambro

Rooted in the Community for Over Six Decades

Jennifer Paley Ambro and David Ambro have worked side by side for the past 40-plus years publishing six award-winning weekly community newspapers that comprise The North Shore News Group. With each and every issue, Jennifer and David aim to chronicle community life and encourage civic engagement in the communities their newspapers cover, including local government and politics, school coverage, achievements of local residents, local sports, arts and entertainment, and more. They are willing to tackle tough issues and take strong editorial positions on those issues they feel are vital to the community.

The North Shore News Group strives to provide an outlet for local organizations to promote their many worthwhile community events and initiatives that make living in town so rewarding. It is their strong sense of community that the couple has tried to foster through their work at the newspapers, committed to serving as a trusted community forum and a resource for those they serve.

Jennifer was born in Kings Park and grew up in Smithtown. She attended Smithtown Elementary, New York Avenue Junior High, and Smithtown High School West. An alumnus of the University of Vermont, she lived in N.Y. City for many years before returning to Long Island to marry her husband and dig into life as a community newspaper publisher.

Growing up in the Town of Smithtown instilled a strong sense of community in Jennifer, David grew up in East Northport in a family deeply rooted in local and national politics. It was the many lively discussions around the family dinner table, debating issues vital to the community, that inspired David to pursue journalism. At American University in Washington D.C. David learned the critical value and importance of local community newspapers and the role they play in providing vital information to their residents.

Both Jennifer and David have served on numerous community and professional boards over the years, including the New York State Press Association, Business Improvement Districts, Historical Societies, Chambers of Commerce, and Arts Councils. The couple has two children, Brady and Sophie, both of whom live in New York City.
